I have lovingly renamed this post after several comments from friends on Facebook.  I thought it looked like a snake, they said I found Nessie! Love it!

So if you read my overly dramatic post last night in regards to these pics…I’m sorry. Really. I hit publish prematurely. Perhaps external processors should not have a blog. Anyway, if you didn’t read it, consider yourself spared. And if you are now curious after that introduction, a much better way to sum up my thoughts would be like this: I have lost my photography mojo. I’ve been struggling to find my old joy in it for a long time now. It seemed to start in the aftermath of my cancer journey though I tried to push through it, and it has truly puzzled me. Something that used to bring me so much joy, suddenly felt forced and hard and brought little satisfaction. It’s frustrated me and made me sad at times because I’ve missed that part of me, but wasn’t sure how to get her back.

So Sunday when I picked up my camera to document a family celebration and I felt that flicker of joy again, it felt good. And I feel hopeful that maybe my mojo is back…or at least on its way back. ūüėČ

    Week 3 – Artistic: Land

Your inspiration this week is land. This could be a landscape, or an image inspired by the land in some way.

So I have been feeling stagnant and uninspired in my photography journey for awhile now.  This year I have committed to returning to my roots, getting back to the basics, and keeping it simple again, in hopes that I can find my love for photography once again.   To that end, I started my photography journey with a a simple point and shoot, a blog and a weekly photography challenge.  So that is personal goal and commitment as I approach photography this year.  While my skill level has expanded beyond a simple point and shoot, there is still much to learn and practice with my DSLR and a lot to be said for doing this as a hobbyist!

I have revamped my website to a simpler format, and I will be following along with the  52 Week Photography Challenge over at Dogwood Photogaphy again.  I am hoping to challenge and grow in my skills and FINISH it this year ( I got about half way through last years challenge)!   I will typically post my selection for the weeks challenge on Saturday, but since I already have week 3 in hand, I thought I would post early and invite you to join me in the fun!   If you decide to try your hand at the 52 week challenge be sure to leave me a link in my comments section where I can see your pictures!

Just so you are thinking about it, Week 4’s prompt is, Story: Mirror -Tell a story using a mirror.¬† You can find the full list of the 2017 photo prompts here.

  • Chinese Lantern Festival, Atlanta GA

We had an opportunity to visit the Chinese Lantern Festival last night. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and the scenery was awesome! It was a great opportunity for me to practice night photography with some great subjects.

I so enjoyed hanging with my beautiful gang, as well as the group of other international students and host families we get to be a part of.  It is such a privileged to be surrounded with so many great people!

Straight out of the camera –¬† 52/2

Technical РSOC (otherwise known as Straight out of the Camera):  No Photoshop. Shoot a compelling image and post it without edits. No cheating! (Be sure and save the image file for the end of the challenge!)

2017 Dogwood 52 Week Photography Challenge

Well I am not sure it is a compelling image really, but it was the best of the images that I shot for this weeks challenge.  And really, who could resist that face.
